Coldplay 2

Well they did say it would be sooner rather than later, so it comes as no surprise that the “no surprise” announcement of the next Coldplay album has been made.

A Head Full of Dreams, the seventh album from Coldplay will be released on 4 December.  Rumours that this will be their last album were fuelled by frontman Chris Martin suggesting in a recent interview, that A Head Full of Dreams was “the completion of something”.

You can view the teaser for the album here:-

The Beeb got the premiere of the lead track Adventure Of A Lifetime, describing it as “upbeat and summery”.  Speaking to BBCs Nick Grimshaw, Chris Martin dropped further hints about the band headlining Glasto2016.

“We’d love to do it. That’s our spiritual home, as a band,” said Martin.  “Maybe we should have called ahead and asked them.”

Adventure of a Lifetime is a bit of a departure for Coldplay.  More of a an electro-pop dance track than the jangly indie of Shiver, or balladesque Fix you, this track is a revved up electronic extension of Viva La Vida, with bells on.  With its addictive disco beat, hypnotic melody and 80s dance sound mixed with some quirky sound affects, this is as un-Coldplay as you can get.  Out with the protest lyrics and lovelorn laments, in with a thumping great upbeat dance track.

A dance floor filler and surefire cert for the number one spot, Adventure of a Lifetime is a cracker and I for one, can’t wait to hear A Head Full of Dreams in its entirety.
