Dropping like a gift from heaven into my aural-scape, ‘DATV’, the latest single from the debut album, ‘Myriads’, released earlier in the Summer by Indie SoundScaper, Officer, is an utterly gorgeous affair.
It is an absolutely divine composition, which even when pared back, remains as enchanting and soulful as the original incarnation, to which this lovingly performed acoustic version, recorded live during a gig at the Sebright Arms, will attest.
Nordy boy Officer, kicked off 2015 with the release of the single, ‘Waters’, a swirling, fast paced, enchantress of a song, featuring some wonderful “oriental” sounding synth sequences, cracking kick drum and zippy jagged guitar playing. With a lilting, engaging voice that has tone & quality not unlike that of fellow countryman, Gary Lightbody, Officer’s unquestionable vocal abilities are really quite captivating.
The adrenalin rush of ‘Waters’ is countered by the latest release ‘DATV’, with its sentiment provoking, downplayed vocal. Officer’s lyrical talent is not to be underestimated and, in essence, aside from his beguiling vocal ability, is probably where his strength lies. This is a wonderfully evocative song, with an instrumental build that evolves carefully to complement the vocal performance. A slow tempoed track, it has a nice relaxed percussive line that underpins some wonderfully adept guitar playing, which together with melded layers of shiny synth and blurry harmonies, go to make ‘DATV’ a disarming and powerfully provocative composition.
Here’s hoping this is the beginning of a “myriad” successful future releases from the abundantly talented and hugely engaging Officer.
